Woody Guthrie Folk Music CenterPampa’s Tribute to Woody Guthrie - a 501 (c) (3) DBA – The Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center Mission Statement The primary purpose of our existence is as follows: • To pay tribute to Woodrow Wilson Guthrie (Woody Guthrie) for his remarkable contributions in the field of folk music, literature and art, and educate visitors about his positive message as well as his dedication to human rights and economic equality; • Promote tourism to Pampa, Texas by maintaining and improving the Historical site of the old Harris Drug Store at 320 S. Cuyler Street, where Woody worked and found his first guitar, • Collect memorabilia about Guthrie and to create exhibits of artwork, written and multimedia materials relevant to the life, music, art and influence of Guthrie; • To promote, support and encourage local and visiting artists; • To provide a venue for performers and a place where friends, families, musicians and visitors may gather in a safe and pleasant environment. • Provide an educational destination for schools to bring groups of children to learn about folk music in general and the man who wrote, “This Land Is Your Land” and have local musicians entertain them. In these ways, we strive to carry on the legacy of Woody and his important place in history and relevance today to new generations.
